DMX Intelligent Lights Make A Great EffectIn almost any production, whether it is the theater, opera, dance or any other performance art, modern stage lighting has become a flexible tool to increase the artistic effect. Lighting has come a long way in a very short period and no product illustrates that point better than DMX intelligent lights. To fully grasp DMX intelligent lights, and to understand their impact on the performing arts it is first necessary to know what DMX intelligent lights are. DMX intelligent lights are a combination of two separate components. First is the DMX operation. DMX, simply put, is a communication protocol. The second component is, of course, the intelligent light. It derives its name from the fact that the light has automated or mechanical features far beyond that of standard, stationary luminaries. Intelligent lights have been available since the mid to early 1980's; however, the ability to control them properly only came with the advent of a proper communication control program, DMX. Since then intelligent lights have been able to become more complex and refined. DMX intelligent lights originally only had a place where strong, powerful lighting was needed, that changed dramatically with the introduction of smaller, more compact, lower wattage DMX intelligent lights. The cost of these types of theatrical lighting fixtures is significant, but the features are enumerable. DMX intelligent lights, sometimes referred to as moving head lights, have the ability to tilt and pan, they employ motorized color wheels to change or to mix the color of the light beam, and they have the ability to zoom or focus the light as well as using prisms or lenses to shape the light beam. Pattern wheels and gate shutters are utilized to project images into the light beam, and some DMX intelligent lights have motorized gobos to create spinning effects. DMX intelligent lights are often divided into two categories, profile and wash lights. Profile lights tend to have many of the internal features mentioned earlier such as gobos and prisms whereas wash DMX intelligent lights tend to have simpler optics but offer a larger light beam, several frosting, and more color features than the typical profile or spot intelligent light. DMX intelligent lights offer the performer more options than your standard stage lighting could ever have. Given their ergonomic design DMX intelligent lights are far more esthetically pleasing then the average par can or Fresnel lighting fixture. With DMX intelligent lights, being able to offer what only multiple standard stage lighting can offer it is very difficult to argue that DMX intelligent lights are not for you. |
